AI-Coded Add-On for a Big Platform (Notion, Chrome)
Use AI coding agents to build a small paid extension that fills a gap in a platform people already use daily.
A named, real operator ran this and shared results publicly. The figures are their own.
Chrome Web Store has a one-time $5 developer registration fee. AI coding tools have free tiers; paid plans are optional.
The tool stack
AI agent writes and debugs the extension code.

Notion integrations ↗Platform and marketplace to plug into.
Prices are the vendors' published list prices as researched in Oct 2026 and change often — always check the vendor's pricing page.
Step-by-step setup
- Read the platform's forums, Reddit and feature requests for repeated complaints that the platform has not fixed.
- Describe the smallest tool that fixes one complaint; let an AI coding agent build and test it.
- Add a free tier and a low monthly paid plan.
- List it in the platform's store or integrations gallery and reply helpfully to the threads where people asked for it.
- Ship the top user requests; AI handles most code changes.

Overview
Building on top of a large platform borrows its audience: every new user is a potential customer. AI coding agents make small extensions buildable for non-experts.
What the source reports
Indie Hackers reports (Sept 2024) that founder Julien Nahum’s Notion form-builder NoteForms, built in a few days and first of its kind, claims about $37,000 a month. It was not built mainly with AI; we include it as proof of the “platform add-on” model, with AI as today’s faster way to build.
Realistic income
Most extensions earn little. Being early to a real gap matters more than code quality.
Risks
- The platform may ship the feature itself.
- Store policy reviews and API changes.
*Income figures are illustrative ranges based on public pricing and typical outcomes reported by practitioners, not guarantees. Most new online businesses earn little or nothing at first. Not financial, legal or tax advice.
